Standard Sequence

Summary
The Biosystems Engineering curriculum is offered by the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, in conjunction with the College of Engineering. It includes a broad slate of fundamental engineering skills, including soil & water conservation, machine design, sensor development, and bioprocessing.

Employment
Recent graduates of this track are employed by government agencies (Natural Resource Conservation Service, Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation), equipment manufacturers (John Deere, Caterpillar, New Holland), universities, pharmaceutical companies (Novartis), environmental engineering consulting firms, and water treatment facilities. The broad background offered by this degree appeals to many different companies with a broad range of interests.
 

 

Pre-Professional Concentration

Summary
The pre-professional concentration provides comprehensive training in biosystems engineering while preparing the student for candidacy to medical school, law school, or other professional programs. While this program meets general published pre-med requirements, it is the student’s responsibility to work with their academic advisor to ensure that their course selection meets the demands of specific schools.

Employment
The pre-professional program prepares its graduates for additional studies in professional programs. The biological emphasis of the curriculum is specifically geared towards application to medical schools, but past graduates have also successfully completed law school, and the program would provide excellent preparation for dental studies, veterinary schools, etc. Because the requirements of such programs vary greatly, it is the student's responsibility to work with their adviser to ensure that the specific classes taken meet the admissions requirment of their target programs.
 

 

Environmental Engineering Minor

With careful course selection and the addition of a few courses to the standard sequence, a student can obtain a minor in Environmental Engineering.
