In four Tennessee counties with greater than 40% obesity rates, C3 Coalitions have worked with 11 local food retail and farmers market sites to implement changes that promote healthy eating. Community members are now reminded of the importance of healthy choices when they shop, and made more aware of the healthy food resources in their own communities.
University of Tennessee Extension has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services of more than $987,000 to reduce the rate of chronic diseases in four West Tennessee counties: Lake, Lauderdale, Haywood and Humphreys. Tennessee State University Extension is a cooperating partner.
