About the Thesis
Herbert Honors Thesis is a substantial written report that represents some aspect of;
·         RESEARCH (i.e., laboratory or field experimentation, survey research or qualitative research);
·         SCHOLARHIP (i.e., a comprehensive literature review of the original research reports related to a specific aspect of agriculture and natural resources that leads to educational materials for teaching or Extension programs): OR
·         CREATIVE ACHIEVEMENT (i.e., a comprehensive analysis of an ecosystem or landscape and plan for preservation, conservation, restoration, or utilization).
Rules and Regulations
·         Mentor - Your faculty mentor must have an appointment in the University of Tennessee, Institute of Agriculture. Appointment in UTIA may be waived for Dean’s Scholars with minors in other colleges; see Dr. Kimberly Gwinn, if you wish to receive this waiver. 
·         Courses – You must take two additional courses in pursuit of CASNR Honors (do not count toward honors coursework requirements). The courses serve different purposes:
o   Agriculture and Natural Resources 497 - Honors Research ( 3 - 6 credit hours). You should be enrolled in this  course when you are working on your research project; AND
o   Agriculture and Natural Resources 498 - Honors Thesis (1 credit hour) -  Enroll in AGNR 498 during the semester that you are writing your thesis
·         Exhibition – Presentation and/or publication of your thesis research beyond TRACE is highly encouraged and should be the rule and not the exception. Your research mentor will provide advice as to the best venue for your research.

§  EURēCA (Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement)
§  Participation in is highly encouraged. You may participate in EURēCA multiple times. 
            The exhibit is held during the spring semester

§  Annual meetings of professional societies
§  National Conferences on Undergraduate Research
