March 23, 2020, Update
In the spirit of transparency, but without violating the employee's privacy, I feel compelled to share with you that a UTIA employee has now tested positive for COVID-19. This employee works for one of our East Tennessee Extension offices. All co-workers who may have come in contact with this employee have been notified.
Per our guidelines, the employee self-reported upon receiving a positive result from a COVID-19 test. The employee and members of the employee's family are in isolation at their home, and all employees who have worked in close proximity to the COVID-19 positive employee have been instructed to stay at home and isolate for fourteen days.
It is my hope and prayer that our co-worker, and any family members who may have also contracted the disease, will recover without severe complications.
In this extraordinary time, I ask you to stay vigilant in following the recommendations of the CDC regarding social distancing and disease prevention. You can also find helpful information and resources on our UTIA coronavirus website.
I also thank you for all you have done and will continue to do for your co-workers, neighbors, and communities as we all weather this pandemic together.
