From the Senior Vice President
and Senior Vice Chancellor
March 27, 2020, Update
As we wrap up this second week of remote working due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I want to take a moment to thank all of our faculty, staff, and students for your hard work, flexibility, and dedication through these uncertain times. It's no surprise to me that all of you have stepped up to adjust your own lives and schedules and assist others who may need it. From adapting to online learning in a matter of days, to driving a community effort to sew medical masks for health care workers, to making house visits for critically ill animal patients, the response from the UTIA family has been amazing.
As we head into the weekend, I want to remind everyone to heed the advice of the experts and continue social distancing. This practice is the only way we have a chance to mitigate the disease's spread. I also want you to take care of your mental health, whether it's taking a walk outdoors while keeping a safe distance from others, picking up a long-lost hobby, or getting information from the news in small doses. We discussed some of these ideas in today's Fireside Chat, which can be viewed at utia.tennessee.edu/coronavirus. This website is also a great resource for information on keeping healthy, safely working from home, the current status of UTIA, and much more. Many thanks to our Coronavirus Task Force that has kept this site up-to-date and relevant.
Finally, I want to express appreciation to our entire UTIA administrative team. They have been working hard to answer questions, provide guidance, and anticipate our next moves in this highly dynamic environment. Their teamwork has made a very positive difference in our approach and the results we've achieved amid several weeks of constant change. Of course, I also want to recognize the leadership that each of you has exhibited in your office and community as well. Working together, we'll continue to learn and advance the Institute as we lead and serve others.
