From the Senior Vice President
and Senior Vice Chancellor

April 17, 2020, Update

As we end this week, there is a glimmer of hope related to the COVID-19 pandemic. In Tennessee, the total number of active cases decreased for the first time yesterday and the curve appears to be flattening. Medical experts say our efforts to social distance are working! Because of this, discussions are in the beginning stages on how we might begin re-entry into our physical workspaces in a partial or phased approach. More information will be shared as it becomes available, but in the meantime, please continue to make every effort to work remotely and stay in your homes to help mitigate this highly contagious virus.

We've made two important updates to the UTIA guidelines. Restrictions on travel, both domestic and international, and on public meetings are extended through July 31. These restrictions will be reconsidered periodically as conditions change and as we learn additional information. The new guidelines are available on the UTIA Coronavirus website. A recording of today's Fireside Chat, as well as some new virtual backgrounds for use during zoom calls are also available. Check back often as the page is updated with additional backgrounds.

Again, I want to reiterate that it is important for all of us to remain diligent, stay at home, and follow CDC guidelines. Our efforts are working and I am very appreciative of all of you. Please stay safe and thank you for all you do for the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture.

All my best,
