April 24, 2020 Update
With Governor Bill Lee's announced phased reopening of the state of Tennessee at the end of next week, the University of Tennessee is now working on plans for reentry into our work spaces. At UTIA, we have our statewide presence to consider, and I've asked our COVID-19 Task Force to begin the process of planning this effort. As soon as we have details in place, we will share them with you.
While we are working hard to develop phased plans for reentry to our workplaces, we're also paying careful attention to our budget. Our Institute is in very sound shape financially, and we are managing our resources carefully to ensure that we can continue to effectively carry out our mission in the coming months and years. We are slowing our hiring to fill only the most critical positions, while also slowing our expenditures for any significant new purchase commitments. I encourage everyone to work hard to control spending for the remainder of the fiscal year. Being fiscally conservative in the short term will help us in the future as we see the impacts on local, state, and national economies and our revenues.
In the meantime, please continue to think about ways in which we can be most effective in delivering on our mission. I've really enjoyed reading the success stories that have been submitted so far on our website and I encourage you to continue sharing these.
Also, we have just debuted the first of three videos that speak to the heart of our mission and our work. UTIA is an amazing organization and these videos reflect how all of us play a vital role in the lives of so many.
Have a wonderful weekend,
