CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Joe Griffy has been named the interim county director for University of Tennessee Extension in Montgomery County.  Griffy will serve in this position until June 30, 2014, or until a permanent replacement is named.
Griffy is a long time employee of UT Extension.  He has worked as an agricultural agent and county director in Stewart County for the past 15 years, but has been with UT Extension for a total of 26 years.  He will maintain his position in Stewart County during the interim appointment.
“Joe has many years of service with UT Extension and a long history as an outstanding agent,” says Ben West, director, Western Region Extension. “I’m excited he’s providing leadership during this time of transition.”
The appointment comes after the sudden passing of former Montgomery County Extension Director, John Bartee.  Bartee had served as the county director for the past 17 years and had worked with UT Extension in Montgomery County for 30 years altogether.
“Although deeply saddened by the circumstances, I am honored to serve the citizens of Montgomery County in this position,” says Griffy.  “It is my desire that UT Extension will continue to be a leading source for solutions for the farmers, families and youth of this county.”
Griffy is no stranger to the area.  He was born and raised in Montgomery County and is a former Clarksville police officer.  His new appointment officially began July 22.
The UT Extension office in Montgomery County is open Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.  For more information on programs, publications, upcoming events or directions to the office, visit or call 931-648-5725.
