SPRING HILL, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture is hosting an Advanced Master Meat Goat Producer program at the Middle Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in Spring Hill. The three-day program is scheduled for October 28-30.

The advanced program will feature 13 continuing education courses that explore every area of meat goat production. The cost to attend is $200, but with a farm premise identification number and account number, the cost will be reduced to $100. This includes all courses, lunch each day and take home materials. Additionally, participating producers will qualify for 50 percent cost share through the Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program.

“This will be a great educational opportunity for producers as many university extension specialists and industry representatives will be presenting important topics for meat goat production,” says Troy Dugger, director of UT Extension in Hickman County.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the goat industry within the U.S. is growing, both in inventory and markets for goat products. The growth is attributed to changing demographics and an increase in hobby farms. Tennessee is the second largest meat goat producer in the nation, topped only by Texas.

The event kicks off at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28. Classes run until 5 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and conclude at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Registration fees are due by October 20. The complete schedule and registration forms can be downloaded at
