KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture recently presented several awards to top faculty, staff, researchers and outreach experts. Thirty-two people were recognized at UTIA’s annual Awards and Promotions Luncheon held in early August. Many of the awards are gifts made possible by past faculty, alumni and friends of the Institute.

Sabrina Klepper, a licensed veterinary medical technician at the UT College of Veterinary Medicine, was honored with the Institute’s Professional/Academic Award for Outstanding Service.

Klepper has been with UTIA since her days as an animal science student, and at the veterinary college since 2004. In her work, she is an advocate for the best veterinary care a patient can have, and has been involved as a veterinary tech in Community Practice, a required rotation for fourth-year veterinary students. Klepper says she believes this program should focus on preventive medicine with the goal to give animal owners the best information about vaccines, parasites and dental care. She also works to encourage feline-friendly handling techniques that reduce stress for patients – and she serves as one of the veterinary nurses for UT mascot Smokey.

“I feel fortunate to be able to watch pets grow from an early age to adulthood,” Klepper says. “And I feel blessed to have found a career I love.”

“We are so proud of the many talented and dedicated people working for the UT Institute of Agriculture across the state,” says UTIA Chancellor Larry Arrington. “It was an honor to recognize all these award winners for their hard work.”

Through its mission of research, teaching and extension, the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture touches lives and provides Real. Life. Solutions. ag.tennessee.edu
