Building Business Relationships Key to Enhanced Profits

SPRING HILL, Tenn. ― Relationships impact the quality of life for farmers by impacting the bottom of line of their farm businesses.

“A lack of communication and interpersonal skills can lead to estranged family relationships, employee turnover, poor customer retention or conflicts with other key business players,” says Megan Bruch Leffew, Extension Specialist with the UT Center for Profitable Agriculture. 

Direct farm marketers, agritourism operators and key team members for these businesses are invited to learn how to improve communication and create positive, rewarding personal and professional relationships at four upcoming workshops. Participants will explore the different ways people communicate, process information and interact with others using the Real Colors© temperament assessment tool. 

“Real Colors© helps people identify personality styles – categorized by Blue, Green, Gold and Orange – and gives valuable insight into what is most important to people, why they may react to situations in a certain way, and how to communicate best with each person based on their style,” says David Yates, UT Extension Area Specialist. Yates and Leffew are certified Real Colors© facilitators and will lead the interactive workshops.

The Improve Communication and Build Better Relationships with Real Colors© Workshops will be held on four dates across the state: January 10 in Jackson, January 11 in Murfreesboro, January 17 in Greeneville and January 18 in Harriman. Check-in and networking will begin at 9 a.m. local time. Sessions will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. All times are local.

Pre-registration and pre-payment are required no later than five business days prior to each event. Space is limited due to the interactive nature of the workshop. There is a registration fee of $20 per person. Lunch will be provided. Register online now at tiny.utk.edu/RealColors​.
