Things To Do in East Tennessee

East Tennessee is blessed with an abundance of activities for all ages and interests. If you can't find something you enjoy, then you just haven't tried. Whether you enjoy biking, hiking, fishing, birding, shopping, museums, Revolutionary and Civil War history, barbeque, farm-to-table fare and local breweries are all close by in Knoxville.

Hilton Knoxville is downtown and close to restaurants, museums and shopping. Nearby are the Tennessee River, University of Tennessee campus, Knoxville Zoo and numerous parks and trails. But, we hope you will come early and stay late to enjoy more of what East Tennessee has to offer. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Gatlinburg are within an hour drive, as are several other national parks, national forests, state parks and wilderness areas. Between the almost unlimited water sports opportunities of the Tennessee River watershed, thousands of miles of trails (over 800 in the Smoky Mountains park alone) and everything else in the region, we know you will find something you enjoy.

Here are a few resources to help you start planning your extracurricular activities:

Want to venture a little farther? The most visited national park, the Great Smoky Mountains, with over 800 miles of trails and even more streams, and more than 11 million visitors last year, is about an hour away. Bristol, birthplace of country music and home of the world's fastest half mile, is under 2 hours away. Chattanooga is also under 2 hours away, with a revitalized downtown and many parks and the Tennessee Aquarium. The capitol city of Nashville - Music City USA - is about 3 hours away, and Memphis is at the far end of the state on the Mississippi River, some 6 hours away.
