Originally founded in 1898, with the current location founded in 1910, Columbia Country Club is one of the three original private clubs in the Washington DC area and has remained largely unchanged through its history.  Columbia Country Club is a member owned club which offers a full range of athletic, social and recreational facilities, including an award winning 18 hole golf course and elaborate club facilities.  Columbia hosted the 1921 US Open, and more recently, the 2003 USGA Junior Amateur Championships.  Located in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Columbia is located less than a mile from Washington DC.  The course consists of Poa Annua greens and Ryegrass fairways.  Plans are underway for construction on a new short game and maintenance facility.

One year experience including pesticide and fertilizer application, handwatering of greens, and employee management.  Applicants with prior internship experience will be preferred.

Candidates interested in the position should be detail oriented, self-motivated, positive, disciplined, and able to comfortably work in a team environment.  The second assistant will work closely with both the first assistant and the superintendent to continuously produce high quality playing conditions.  Qualified individuals will have the opportunity to sharpen his/her knowledge on fertilizer and pesticide application, course setup, crew management, disease identification, and water management in order to further advance his/her career as a turf manager.  The second assistant must be able to obtain a Maryland State Pesticide and Fertilizer License within 90 days of employment.

Salary - $40,000+ depending on experience.  Full benefit package including health, dental, and life insurance, paid annual vacation, sick leave, 401(k), golfing privileges, pro shop discount, meals, and uniforms.  Paid dues for local and national associations.
