An update to the 2005 report "Biomass as a Feedstock for a Bioenergy and Bioproducts Industry: The Technical Feasibility of a Billion Ton Annual Supply" was issued in August 2011.

The report entitled "U.S. Billion-Ton Update: Biomass Supply for a Bioenergy and Bioproducts Industry" is organized similarly to the original report with separate chapters for forest and agriculture biomass.  The update expands on the 2005 report to include (1) a spatial county-by-county inventory of potentially available primary feedstocks, (2) supply curves for the individual feedstocks, and (3) a rigorous modeling of resource availability.  The Bioenergy Knowledge Discovery Framework provides access to the data used in the Billion-Ton Update modeling and allows users to explore state and county-level data and to download selected crop data for multiple years in a spreadsheet format.
